Baton Rouge Mayor Felt City Immune THE JERSEY JOURNAL, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 12, 1972 Michael Ferrante, Operated Produce Business in Hoboken Michael Ferrante, who owned and operated a produce business in Hoboken for more than 25 years, before his retirement eight years ago, will be buried Friday in Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City, after a 9:15 a.m. Mass in St. Francis R.C. Church, Hoboken. Mr.

Ferrante was born in Italy. He was a veteran of the Italian Navy during World War I. Mr. Ferrante came to the U.S. at the age of 25 and settled in Hoboken.

Soon after his arrival in this country, Mr. Ferrante found a job working at the old Abby Inn which was located in Union City. In 1933 Mr. Ferrante met Philomena Bencivenga of Hoboken and soon afterwards they were married in a Hoboken church. Soon after his marriage, Mr.

Ferrante decided to go into the produce business. He started selling his fruit on a horse-drawn wagon. As business progressed, Mr. Ferrante opened a store on Madison Street and lated added two trucks to his business. "Dad was a hard-working and dedicated family man.

He was very generous and gave to those Body in a Freezer Just Like in Movie TORONTO (UPI) It literally was a scene straight out of the movies. In a film televised here Monday night, Dean Martin, as detective Matt Helm, yanked open the loor of a freezer and out tumbled the frozen body of a shapely blonde. Four youths, inspired by the movie, decided to break open a mysterious, sealed freezer in their own dining room. Inside, behind the turkey pies and vegetables, was the frozen body of a young, dark-haired woman. Police identified the body, suntanned and clad in shorts and halter, as Grace Evelyn Todd 34.

Her husband, David Wilfred Todd, 38, was charged with noncapital murder. Police said the body had been in the freezer about six months. Todd had brought the freezer with him when he moved into the home of Catherine Cassidy, 15, and her brother, Charles, 21, on Dec. 1. When the Cassidy children, along with John Moore, 19, and Layne Jackson, 18, pried open the freezer, "we could see the whole body, with the head Finn Heads Med Board Continued from Page 1 section at Martland Hospital, Newark.

Dr. Levy, well-known in Jersey City, practiced at the Medical Center until 1966. Finn said Mrs. Edwina Michaels, a retired registered nurse, would serve as the board's secretary, but that the treasury post would remain unfilled until the Feb. 2 meeting.

The position has been held since October by Robert Swanson, a Jersey City banker. Finn announced he has appointed a three-member subcommittee to meet with Clerk to determine whether the hospital needs a permanent attorney. In the past a city corporation counsel served as legal advisor to the Board of Managers and the hospital, but Finn said that, under the state -granted autonomy, this arrangement would be a conflict of interest. He lauded Clark, Anthony Dickens, former executive director, the hospital staff and former board members for work in the past. "I have not had time.

to witness the hospital's operations personally, but, from what reliable people tell me, the hospital is definitely on its way back," Finn said. Finn said he would return to the Medical Center at 3 p.m. Friday when he and Clark will meet with the searching for a new director of radiology. He said the Board of Managers has agreed to meet on the first Wednesday of each month, but said they would meet more frequently when necessary. BATON ROUGE, La.

(UPI) Mayor Woodrow W. Dumas thought his city was immune to racial violence. "We've worked very well together," he said yesterday. "I haven't even called a meeting of the biracial committee in almost two years, because we haven't needed it." Dumas found out Monday his city was not immune. Today, 800 combat-helmeted National Guardsmen patrolled the streets to prevent a recurrence of the gunbattle between blacks and whites that killed four men and injured 34 others.

The city was under a curfew until dawn and an emergency decree made it against the law today for groups of more than three citizens to gather on the streets. Police said the city was peaceful last night, but an anonymous caller told authorities a bomb was set to go off during the Louisiana StateAlabama basketball game at the LSU assembly center. LSU campus police conducted a brief search of the building and found 1 no bomb. The 5,000 spectators were not evacuated. The trouble Monday began as a black demonstration.

It escalated to street fighting when white newsmen arrived, and turned into a shootout when police arrived. Police said they came to assist the newsmen, three of whom were beaten by the demonstrators. Both sides claim the other side fired first. Eight blacks including three from Chicago, one from Philadelphia and one from Los Angeles were charged with the murder of two sheriff's deputies killed in the gunbattle. Dumas insisted the incident was caused by outside agitators.

"Baton Rouge is not a city of racial tension," he said. "There are no racial overtones in this city." Dumas and other city officials said black militants from out of state came to take over the city and according to written plans found on some of the 71 persons arrested intended to strike other small cities later. Police Chief Eddie 0. Bauer said the instigators came to town last week and held organizational meetings to gain local support. Man Plunges To Death From Pollak A 72-year-old Jersey City man was killed early today when he jumped or fell from a seventh floor window at Pollak Hospital, police reported.

Thomas Keane, of 711 Jersey was found on the north side of the hospital at 4:30 a.m. According to police Keane had been a patient at Pollak since Oct. 6, 1971, having been transferred from the Medical Center. The victim's cane was found by an open window of a room he shared with another patient. Police said that the other patient was unable to give any information but following an investigation they classified the death as a suicide.

Working Retreat THURMONT, Md. (UPI) President Nixon was in seclusion at his Camp David mountain retreat today working on his State of the Union message, and budget he will deliver to Congress later this month. Nixon flew alone to Camp David last night. wrapped in towels," Cassidy said. "We saw a wedding ring on her finger and we decided it must be his (Todd's) wife," Moore added.

Police said Mrs. Todd had been reported missing Dec. 21 by her mother, a resident of Burlington, although she had not been seen since late July by neighbors of the northeast Toronto home she shared with Todd last summer. Neighbors said that when they questioned Mrs. Todd's absence they were told she was visiting her mother in the United States.

Police said preliminary examination of Mrs. Todd's body indicated she had been shot through the head with a .22 caliber rifle. A complete postmortem was delayed until the body thawed. The Cassidy children met Todd, a truck driver, through a neighborhood drop-in center he and his wife were running. The Cassidys invited Todd to move in with their family after he told them he was unable to renew the lease of his previous home Todd was held pending a plea next week.

Fire Dies Out at Last On Queen Elizabeth HONG KONG (UPI) The fire which destroyed the former luxury liner Queen Elizabeth died out today, leaving only a capsized, nearly-submerged hulk of twisted metal. Fire department officials said they would board the one-time monarch of the seas the world's largest passenger liner as soon as possible to begin an investigation into the cause of the fire that started Sunday. "The ship is now one mass of twisted metal, and I don't think it is possible to gain a great deal of physical evidence to the cause of the fire," a fire department spokesman said. I am also scared to die so I want to help you live a full normal life. I know you will because you have an inner glow of good.

I like good people. Your mother is a good person too. I can tell. Enclosed is a check toward your kidney machine. May this check multiply times.

FUNERALS FROM $250 Two beautiful, air conditioned funeral homes with beautifully appointed private chapels and family rooms and moreample parking facilities: 539 BERGEN AVENUE, JERSEY CITY Edwin F. Huhn, Mgs. ME 4-0411 2200 DUO, Franeis W. Wilson, Mar. ON 1-1000 newspapers and radio and television stations across the country carried the story of Rose Marie Raymond, 15, Tarzana, Calif.

They reported that Rose Marie faced death if she didn't get either a new kidney or use of a dialysis machine. She had entered Cedars of Lebanon Hospital where she was using a machine but the expense of that treatment on a permanent basis with so many others needing it was atronomical. In the next few days letters began trickling in. There were offers of use of home kidney machines, offers to donate kidneys, checks and coins to help with expenses. Then the became a flood until finally Rose Marie had between 35,000 and 40,000 letters.

Nine persons had offered kidney machines, dozens had offered their own kidney. And the' checks including three for $1,000 and another from the McDonald hamburger chain for $4,668 floated in like confetti along with the pennies and dimes and quarters until today Rose Marie Raymond has $70,000 to help her bear the cost of her hospital treatment. An aunt, Jan Benditti, says that the girl's condition is still acute and that doctors do not feel she is yet ready for home dialysis. It also is impossible to accept just any kidney but the child's name is in a computer index and when someone who has willed his kidney after death is matched exactly with hers, a transplant may be attempted..
