In conjunction with the N.C. State Highway Patrol, N.C. Department of Transportation, Village of Pinehurst Police Department and other local and state agencies, the United States Golf Association (USGA) has developed a comprehensive parking and transportation plan for the 124th U.S. Open Championship to be played at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club June 10-16. The plan is designed to ensure the safe and efficient movement of traffic and pedestrians during the championship.
The transportation system will use more than 400 trail signs deployed statewide, more than 130 coach buses and over 20,000 satellite parking spaces to help ensure that the anticipated 235,000 fans experience trouble-free travel to and from the championship grounds while minimizing the impact on local communities.
EVENT PARKING AND ROUTES TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP
For the week of the U.S. Open Championship (June 10-16), all general fans traveling by car should follow event trailblazing signs to the nearest fan parking areas. Complimentary parking will be available at two general fan parking lots, the RED Lot (north) and BLUE Lot (south).
Fans traveling from points north and using US-1 southbound should exit onto US-15/501 South in Sanford and follow signage to the RED Lott
Fans traveling from points north using I-74/US-220 southbound should exit onto US-211 East and follow signage to the RED Lot.
Fans traveling from point west using NC-24/27 eastbound should proceed to I-74 South and follow signage to the RED Lot.
Fans traveling from points south using US-1 northbound should follow trail signage to the BLUE Lot.
From I-95, fans should take Exit 31 in St. Pauls for NC-20 West and follow trail signage to the BLUE Lot.
Fans traveling from points west using the US-74 East Bypass should proceed to US-1 North and follow signage to the BLUE Lot.
Fans may also make use of the Ride Share & Passenger Drop-Off located off Midland Road near the Pinehurst traffic circle. Access to this Ride Share & Passenger Drop-Off is limited to vehicles no larger than 15 passengers. Parking in the Village of Pinehurst will be closely monitored, and parking restrictions will be strictly enforced. There will be no championship parking for fans within the Village of Pinehurst.
Groups of fans arriving at the championship by private coach bus or 16-plus passenger vehicles or larger will not be allowed to access the Ride Share & Passenger Drop-Off. These vehicles will be directed by law enforcement personnel to drop-off at the RED Lot or BLUE Lot where U.S. Open shuttles will be available for transportation to and from the championship.
The USGA is committed to providing a positive and user-friendly experience for all fans with disabilities. Accessible parking spaces for all vehicles displaying the appropriate HD/DP license plates or placards will be reserved at all parking locations. Fans requiring lift-equipped transportation should contact the USGA Championship Office at[emailprotected]ahead of the championship to receive specific parking instructions.
ROAD RESTRICTIONS
Several roadways will be closed for the duration of the championship and restricted to championship-only vehicles displaying the proper parking permit and/or placard. No other vehicular or pedestrian traffic, including bicycles, will be permitted during the active hours of the road closures.
Morganton Road, between NC-5 and Monticello Drive — Closed Sunday, June 9, through Sunday, June 16, 24 hours per day.
Muster Branch Road at Midland Road — Closed Sunday, June 9, through Sunday, June 16, 24 hours per day.
Pine Tree Road at the intersection of NC-5 — Closed Monday, June 10, through Sunday, June 16.
Village Green Road and Palmetto Road (south side of Midland Road) — Closed Sunday, June 9, through Sunday, June 16, 24 hours per day.
MESSAGE TO LOCAL RESIDENTS & BUSINESSES
Area residents and businesses are asked to be mindful of the following guidelines during the week of the championship to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Due to U.S. Open traffic, delays can be expected during peak arrival and departure times (7-11 a.m. and 3:30-7:30 p.m.) in the following areas:
US-1 and US-15/501 / NC-211 intersections
US-15/501 and NC-73 intersection
US-1 and Morganton Road interchange
Shuttle traffic is expected to be heavy along the primary routes in and around Pinehurst Resort & Country Club. Motorists should avoid the following routes if possible:
Midland Road between NC-5 and the Pinehurst traffic circle
NC-5 between NC-211 and US-1 / US-15/501
Morganton Road between Monticello Drive and US-15/501
