How do I remove a fee from TurboTax?

Open or continue your return. Switch to Forms Mode by selecting the Forms icon. From the menu, select the form you want to remove (if you don't see it, select Open Form at the top). From the Forms menu, select Remove [form name].
Why am I being charged a refund processing fee on TurboTax? If you choose the totally optional Refund Processing Service to have your TurboTax account fees paid from the federal tax refund instead of paying the TurboTax account fees upfront with a credit card, then there is a service charge for this option of $39.99.
Pay upfront using a credit or debit card instead of choosing to have the fees deducted from your federal refund to avoid that $39.99 fee.
This option is called Pay With My Refund (also known as Refund Processing Service), and there's a $40 processing fee charged by the third-party bank that handles the transaction. We'll deduct your TurboTax fees, plus the processing fee, from your federal refund and send the balance to your bank account.
Funds are usually withdrawn on the payment date you specify in TurboTax, assuming your e-filed return has already been accepted (received) by the IRS. If that date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the funds are typically withdrawn the next business day.
Select Tax Tools and Clear & Start Over. Then select Yes and Continue. You'll now be able to start over.
You can use Free Edition by selecting Tax Tools in the left menu, then Switch to Free Edition. Selecting this option keeps all the data you've entered so far.
As long as you haven't paid your TurboTax Online fee (or registered for TurboTax Free Edition), you can clear any data you entered. (Fees paid through Pay With My Refund and prepaid codes also count as "paid.") Once you've paid or registered, we're required to store copies of your return.
How do I get rid of processing fees?
Implementing a surcharge program is an effective way to eliminate processing fees. Surcharge programs pass the cost of these fees onto the consumer. They can avoid these fees by paying with cash or debit instead.
You have to clear and start over. When you start over you will get a screen that gives you the option of Deluxe, Deluxe Live or Deluxe Assisted. Beneath those options there is a small hard to see line that says more TurboTax products. Click that link and it will take you to a screen where you can pick Free Edition.
You appear to be using Live Self-Employed, which is the most expensive of the Online TurboTax products. That Live feature allows for on-demand help from a CPA/EA tax expert during return preparation and a review of your return prior to filing. It's $200 for a Federal return and $55 for a state return.
You won't be able to file with TurboTax Free Edition if you have itemized deductions, unemployment income, business income, stock sales, rental property income or income reported on other forms, like income from crypto investments.
TurboTax may be charging you $39 to pay with your refund because this payment option is known as a refund processing service. The fee covers the cost of the service, which includes transmitting your tax return to the IRS, processing the refund payment, and delivering the funds to you.
If we detect that your tax situation requires expanded coverage, like deductions for owning a home, unemployment income, or self-employment income, we'll prompt you to upgrade to a version that supports the forms you need so that we can maximize your tax deductions and ensure you file an accurate return.
If you want to pay your filing fee out of your federal refund, TurboTax charges an extra $40 processing fee for the convenience.
TurboTax Filing Options
As with H&R Block, TurboTax's free option supports the 1040 with some child tax credits. The Deluxe option will be enough for most filers if they want a paid option, though. It costs $39 currently. You get slightly more features for that additional cost, however.
- Sign in if you're not already signed in.
- Select Finish and File, then select Start next to Review your order.
- Swipe down and select View payment options.
- Choose a payment option other than paying with your federal refund.
No tax software provider can guarantee you the best refund. Your tax refund is based on your income, deductions, credits, and the amount of tax you paid in for the year. If you input your return information accurately, you should receive the same refund no matter which software you use.
How do I pay my TurboTax fees?
We accept credit, debit, and prepaid cards with a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover logo. Like many other U.S. online merchants, we can only process cards with a U.S. billing address. A second option is to pay with your federal refund, also known as Pay With My Refund (charges may apply).
You can claim a boyfriend or girlfriend as a dependent on your federal income taxes if that person meets certain Internal Revenue Service requirements. To qualify as a dependent, your partner must have lived with you for the entire calendar year and listed your home as their official residence for the full year.
To downgrade from Full Service, select Do my own taxes in the left or bottom menu. You will leave Full Service and arrive in the TurboTax product that most closely matches what you've told us so far about your tax situation.
- Make sure you're signed into TurboTax and have opened your return.
- If you haven't already, complete the intro questions until the menu appears.
- Select Upgrade from the menu.
Unfortunately, once you have upgraded or added features to your TurboTax return, there is no way to downgrade or remove the extra features. You would need to create a new return to go back to the original product. To start a new return, select “Start a New Return” from under “My Returns” in the top left corner.
