How do I remove TurboTax premium service fee?
Go to the Premium Services Benefits section and select Remove. Select Remove and Pay With Card. Select View Payment Options. On the How would you like to pay for TurboTax?
If we detect that your tax situation requires expanded coverage, like deductions for owning a home, unemployment income, or self-employment income, we'll prompt you to upgrade to a version that supports the forms you need so that we can maximize your tax deductions and ensure you file an accurate return.
- Sign in if you're not already signed in.
- Select Finish and File, then select Start next to Review your order.
- Swipe down and select View payment options.
- Choose a payment option other than paying with your federal refund.
You can use Free Edition by selecting Tax Tools in the left menu, then Switch to Free Edition. Selecting this option keeps all the data you've entered so far.
Premium Services is an optional add-on package for any paid version of TurboTax Online with a California address that hasn't added MAX. Here's what's included: Annual Audit Defense—Confidently handle an audit by the IRS with a dedicated expert who will represent you and communicate with the IRS on your behalf.
If you have already paid, you will not be able to downgrade from Premier to Standard. If you have not paid when you are signed into your online account, just click on start a new return on the left side of your screen and it will open the page to ask what version you want to use and click on Standard from there.
You won't be able to file with TurboTax Free Edition if you have itemized deductions, unemployment income, business income, stock sales, rental property income or income reported on other forms, like income from crypto investments.
You can use your federal refund to pay your TurboTax fees. There's a $40 processing fee charged by the bank that handles the transaction when the IRS processes your return. If your return is rejected, you might have to enter your bank account information again, but you won't be charged a second time.
Choose TurboTax Live Assisted Premium to get unlimited expert advice as you do your own taxes or TurboTax Live Full Service and let an expert do taxes for you, start to finish. A local tax expert matched to your unique situation will find every dollar you deserve and get your taxes done right - as soon as today.
Implementing a surcharge program is an effective way to eliminate processing fees. Surcharge programs pass the cost of these fees onto the consumer. They can avoid these fees by paying with cash or debit instead.
Do I really need TurboTax Premier?
You may opt to use TurboTax Deluxe if you make your money through W-2 employment and intend to take line-item deductions instead of the standard deduction. TurboTax Premier may be a better option if you have investment income or losses.
To downgrade from Full Service, select Do my own taxes in the left or bottom menu. You will leave Full Service and arrive in the TurboTax product that most closely matches what you've told us so far about your tax situation.
With your tax return open, select File. Proceed through the screens until you reach the Just a few steps left... screen, then select Start or Revisit next to Step 1: Review Your Order. On the order summary screen, select Downgrade.
TurboTax is generally pricier than everything else out there. Confident filers may not need all the bells and whistles that most TurboTax online products offer, but some people may find the streamlined program and the availability of human help worth the extra cost.
Premium can only prepare 1 Federal return per Online account. In Premium, there is an extra fee to prepare a state return, but state efile is free. Premier can prepare multiple returns with up to 5 Federal efiles. It includes a state program download for 1 state.
If you are using the online editions the state program is not $40, it is $50. The service charge of $40 is for using the option to pay the TurboTax account fees with the federal tax refund.
Unfortunately, once you have upgraded or added features to your TurboTax return, there is no way to downgrade or remove the extra features. You would need to create a new return to go back to the original product. To start a new return, select “Start a New Return” from under “My Returns” in the top left corner.
With your screen maximized, click My Account (at the top of your screen toward the right) and select Clear & Start Over. Answer Yes to Are you sure you want to clear your return? After your entries have been cleared out, we'll prompt you to select a TurboTax product so you can start over from the very beginning.
To edit or cancel your enrollment for the upcoming tax year you must update your account online by the stated deadline at turbotax.com/advantage-account. Membership renewals are processed and billed each year in early November when the new version of TurboTax Desktop becomes available.
In the run-up to this tax season, Intuit ran ads claiming its services were “free” to users, but the FTC shut that down fast as “deceptive advertising.” Most of Intuit's customers will pay a hefty sum, compared to using rival online services; and for 2024, TurboTax's fees are the highest they've ever been.
Why is TurboTax charging me $39?
If you select Pay with Refund to pay your Turbotax Fees, there's a $39 processing fee charged by the third-party bank that handles the transaction. Once your e-filed return is in pending or accepted status, it's too late to remove Pay With My Refund.
TurboTax Deluxe includes all the features of TurboTax Free Edition, plus a few extras. It's a good option for homeowners. This TurboTax version offers homeowners step-by-step guidance on how to turn their home investment into a major tax break.
To use the Pay With Your Refund option, your IRS refund amount must be sufficient to cover your prep fees, fees for any additional products and services, and applicable sales tax. When you get ready to file, we won't offer Pay With Your Refund if your IRS refund isn't enough to cover your total bill.
$89 is for the Self Employed version federal return. The state is a separate $39. Or if you want the fee deducted from your federal refund there is an Extra $40 Refund Processing Service charge (45 in California). https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/charges-and-fees/help/how-do-i-review-my-fees-in-turbotax-online/0...
When you use a paid version of online--such as Deluxe, you pay for the federal return and you pay for each state return. If you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, then you pay an extra fee of $39.99 (or $45 if you are in CA) to the third party bank.
